Polish Packaging Research and Development Centre (COBRO), self-supporting institution, subordinated to the Ministry of Economy was established in 1973, taking over activities of the Polish Packaging Centre – the central body in Poland in coordination and research in packaging area. The activities and research programme of COBRO in recent years has been strongly influenced by changes in Polish economy, rapid development of packaging industry, integration processes with the European Union and considerable reduction of the State support for science and research in Poland. COBRO’s research activities, concentrating on 5 main problems, presented below, aims at developing progress in Polish packaging industry, improvement of packaging quality, meeting the EU requirements and international standards referring to packaging, food, human health and environmental protection. COBRO collaborates with many scientific, industrial, commercial organizations and companies all over the country and abroad, among others through partnership in: World Packaging Organization (WPO), International Association of Packaging Research Institutes (IAPRI), Polish Chamber of Packaging (KIO), Polish-lithuanian Chamber of Commerce of Eastern Markets, and FP6 and FP7 research projects.
